IDEA - Feb 22 - Each year we take a look at which reporters have received the most coverage on Online Personals Watch. Who's made the cut, the most? Who's been most prolific in writing quality articles about the dating industry. Here's our annual rankings.
#1 - Cassie Murdoch (see story summaries), Mashable
A new name on this list. Cassie joined Mashable at the beginning of 2017 as sex, relationships & lifestyle reporter and that makes her a perfect candidate to win our annual "contest". We summarized 18 of her stories on OPW in 2017 and she wrote many more on the topic.
#2 - Sarah Perez (see story summaries), Tech Crunch
Sarah Perez also covered the Internet dating industry on regular basis and we used 12 of her stories last year. She's been a Tech Crunch writer since 2011 and she wrote for ReadWriteWeb for about 3 years before that. She mostly wrote about what’s new in dating apps – new features, versions, etc.
#3 - Fitz Tepper (see story summaries), Tech Crunch
We listed 7 of Fitz Peppers stories on OPW last year. Most of them covered Bumble news, just like in 2016 when he also appeared on this list. He still writes about a wide range of topics, including i.e. hardware, payments, social apps, legislation and more for Tech Crunch.
#4/5/6 - Jordan Crook (see story summaries), Tech Crunch
Another TC writer on this list and actually a winner of this "contest" in 2015 and 2016. Last year, we 'only' listed 6 of her articles. Her topics are internet culture, social networks, and consumer-facing technology and she covered some Tinder & CoffeeMeetsBagel news last year.
#4/5/6 - Rachel Thompson (see story summaries), Mashable
One more author from Mashable. We listed 6 of her articles in 2017. She's the UK lifestyle correspondent at Mashable. She covered a wider range of topic in connection to the Internet dating industry – i.e. she wrote about The League coming to London and the launch of Appetence.
#4/5/6 - Shana Lebowitz (see story summaries), Business Insider
Shana is the first author on this list who doesn’t write for Tech Crunch or Mashable. We also listed 6 of her articles last year. Shana is a strategy reporter for Business Insider and most of her articles are on slightly different topic than those written by previously listed authors. She's looking at the psychology and science of relationships. She also wrote an article that comparing Bumble Bizz and LinkedIn Career Advice.
#7 - Nathan McAlone (see story summaries), Business Insider
Second place last year, but this time, we only listed 4 of his articles. It seems he wrote less about Internet dating lately. He previously wrote about tech for Business Insider than served as associate editor, and now he's the entertainment editor, so we can still hope for more content on our Internet dating topic from him in the future.
#8/9/10 - Megan Farokhmanesh (see story summaries), The Verge
A new name on our list. We only listed 3 of her articles on OPW in 2017, but she wrote more on Internet dating during the year. She is the internet, sex and pop culture reporter for The Verge since October 2016. She covers all kind of dating apps news – new apps, features...
#8/9/10 - Anthony Ha (see story summaries), Tech Crunch
Anthony is a long time Tech Crunch author who covers media and advertising and co-hosts the Original Content podcast and usually writes a couple of Internet dating article each year. We used 3 of them in 2017.
#8/9/10 - Kari Paul (see story summaries), Marketwatch
We also used 3 of her articles last year. Kari is a personal finance reporter for WSJ’s Marketwatch since 2016. Her work has also appeared at NYMag, VICE Magazine, The Week, Elle, Cosmopolitan, and Quartz.
This is a rough and ready list, we know. Sometimes we miss stories as we're focused on the top stories of the day. But we hope you find this a useful list for getting an idea who is writing the most quality articles on dating.
And here's the rankings for top reporters in 2016 so you can compare. And for 2015.
